The Nightingale is a book I finished reading this weekend and it’s not leaving me. I think it may actually be one of my favorite books ever. Written by Kristin Hanah, it’s historical fiction about French life during World War II. The story centered on two sisters and how they each dealt with the German invasion of France from its earliest days to the end of the war. I was captured from the very first paragraph, shown in the photo below. If I had allowed myself, I think I could have read it all in one sitting. The book was so emotionally compelling, the characters so beautifully developed. I learned so much. It was really an interesting look at the role of women during WWII. And it sure had me thinking about my soft life and just how much a person can endure. Few books can evoke tears, but this one left me sobbing. Whew. Powerful. If you are a reader, I recommend you find this one.
