I love driving stick shift, but you need two good legs to do so. I seem to have severely damaged my hip flexor on my clutch leg yesterday morning at the gym. OMG; it hurts so much, I was actually gasping out loud as a small move would send pain shooting up my leg and back. Yikes…what have I done now? And here’s the irony: I did it while performing hip flexor stretches because I hadn’t been to the gym in a while and I had been working on them in particular as a hedge against loss of flexibility in old age. And I know proper hip flexor stretches because the physical therapist I used for my plantar fasciitis about 6 months ago told me to do them because the hip bone is connected to the shin bone, etc… Damn.
This seriously cramps my style. I’ve already phoned a friend for a ride to my Watershed Board of Directors meeting tonight. I’m going up and down the stairs as little as possible, but when I do, it’s with both feet touching every step – hurt leg goes first on the way down; good leg goes first on the way up. Drop something on the floor? Pause to contemplate – Do I really need that right now or can it stay there? If I do go down to get it – is there anything else in arm’s reach I can do while I’m down here?
By yesterday afternoon, the pain was bad enough that I called my doctor to ask her to call in a muscle relaxer. She was not in and another doctor would not do it without seeing me. As I said to the receptionist, there’s nothing to see!! They just want that damn office visit fee. It’s not like I’m calling every few weeks some type of pain med. In fact, I don’t think there’s a single pain med on my record. Never mind. So I’m doing Doan’s, ice and rest. Grrr….and right as the long Memorial Day weekend begins. I had so many plans that included my hip.
