I woke up from a dream last night convinced that I had invented a new word: ticknic...a picnic with lots of ticks. No idea where that came from or why you'd pack a basket of sandwiches for one of those. I remained awake for a while, working out the spelling (I considered the more balanced 'ticnic') and then wondered how to get it in the next update of Webster's Dictionary. I finally worked out the path to success would have to include a campaign to spread it via church socials in the midwest. I have been accused of "thinking too much" in my waking moments by more than one person. I can only hope my [allegedly] sleeping thoughts are invisible but for this one exception.
Did you know there are websites where you can create new words? You enter one word, decide how many letters you want to overlap and new words are "inventified". I'm not sure why I'd need this. Not when the Oxford Dictionary adds the best new words every year. This year we discovered that the discourteous seat-hog on the subway was merely "manspreading". And if you try to confront him about it you are sure to be the recipient of some "mansplaining" about how they can't help themselves.
Thanks for visiting my web log...I mean blog. :)
