Are you familiar with the book, The Five Love Languages? I think it's a really good book that explains a lot about relationships that succeed and those that do not. The 5 love languages are 1) words of affirmation, 2) acts of service, 3) receiving gifts, 4) quality time and 5) physical touch. And we all have a predominate language, even if we understand and use the others as well. If you go to the website for the book, you can find a 30-question survey that reveals your primary love language. Mine is 'words of affirmation'. Today I was thinking about the relevance of these in the workplace. Could they be applied to enhance relationships at the office? We've done Myers-Briggs and DISC type personality profiles at work and they make you more conscious that your style is not that of others, but then you don't necessarily remember later who is what. This is not a perfect analogy to Love Languages, but 5 key languages at work came to my mind:

This is why low income people give more to charity than higher income people. They know what it's like to be needy and they don't want others to feel that way.
