And so, the race for President of the United States seems finally to be a clear contest between two undesirable candidates. How did we get here? I’m not a political commentator and I did one blog a long time ago about Trump, when nobody was taking him seriously. But here he is, with the Republican nomination seemingly tied up before the convention, much to the chagrin of the mainstream Republican party that tried to derail him. I wonder if he is as surprised as we are. We all know he has great hubris, but I think he started this as a lark. Maybe now he’ll start acting more presidential? His shtick worked for campaigning to get the nomination, but doesn’t he have to be a little more serious to become President? The thing is, can the public ever take him seriously after so many months of showboating?
Bernie Sanders has not announced he’s leaving the race yet, but Hillary seems to have locked up the necessary votes for the Democratic nomination. I was equally amazed by how well Bernie did in his campaign. How can so many Americans think socialism is the right future? Do people really know what socialism is? Venezuela, the poster-child for bad implementation of socialism – is on the brink of total economic collapse. All their welfare programs were loved when they were first created and offered.
And then there’s Hillary. Many pundits think she will become President when running against Trump. Who knows…Trump could continue surprising Americans. If not, government will go on in a “business-as-usual” mode under Hillary – with none of the change that the American public seemed to want from our politicians. Most people I talk to seem dazed – no idea who to vote for because neither candidate seems even close to reasonable. Of course, few people reveal their real political leanings at work, so it’s hard to know. And that’s why we have public pollsters…and eenie, meanie, minie, mo…. ha, ha.
