The office party is over. Nobody got drunk; nobody won a significant amount of money from the scratch off tickets; we all had an awesome meal and everybody went home with someone else’s non-essential re-gift. Yes, we unabashedly use the occasion to off-load something hanging around our homes that we never appreciated quite as much as the original gift-giver intended. There are always a few things that get ‘stolen’ a few times – this year it was a cocoa gift box and a bottle of wine with truffles. In our group, alcohol is considered a good gift. The As Seen On TV Bacon Boss generated substantial interest too. But most of the things people unwrap make you wonder what someone was thinking the first time it went around. Of course, the point is silliness and laughter, not a real gift exchange. In that, we were successful. I left with a fairly decent small nut dish, which I think will be a little jewelry dish for the bedroom. I employ a strategy when my turn comes to pick a wrapped present…. Knowing that the odds are good I will get something ridiculous, I pick a small item. That way I only have a small ridiculous thing in my house for the next 12 months -- until I can bring it back to the next office Christmas party.
