Ugly bike jersey
I know I already covered the ugly bike clothes in a previous post, but like any good comic, I have fresh material. And I'm a woman, so I can freely discuss fashion as part of a bicycle blog as many times as I want. To recap, bike jerseys are really ugly to me...aside from their unflattering fit on the majority of riders, the designs are overwhelmingly garish (case in point to the left). But now I have the support of science behind my bike jersey allergy. There is a British psychologist, cyclist and traffic researcher (Ian Walker) who has conducted extensive studies on bikes in traffic. He found that cars pay more attention and give more room to people in non-bike jerseys. You are actually safer in a normal shirt/shorts. Drivers think you don't know what you're doing. I like that. This effect is also true for women...women get a wider berth, because sadly, we are all incompetent behind the wheel of anything. (Credit to Just Ride for the information.)
Gotta love the humor here!
Now this is a bike jersey I could buy! Colors tasteful. Not too much unpaid advertising going on. And humor! It might get me noticed, or would it actually attract cars closer for a better look? I do live in NJ after all -- what if some moron thinks it's a challenge? Well, hey, I just don't NEED a jersey. I'm good in my regular sports-wicking, solid color, flapping-in-the-wind shirts. But you should still me alot of room please because I'm unpredictable.
